Here are some of our newest projects that are probably happening right now!
Give Us Free
This new play, featuring original music, a live band, spoken word, song and stylized movement is set to tour this coming January 2012. A new retelling of the story of La Amistad slave ship revolt and subsequent Connecticut trials features three actors playing more than two dozen roles. Written by Executive Director Dexter J. Singleton, music by Jenny Nelson. This project is funded by Children’s Theatre Foundation of America, Carolyn Foundation and City of New Haven Department of Cultural Affairs.

Stories of a New America
This new project has already been featured on NPR, newspaper and an upcoming article in a national publication. Over the last year and a half, we were busy at IRIS interviewing more than 85 refugees from the Congo, Iraq, Cuba, Afghanistan and other countries around the world who had resettled in New Haven, out of their stories came this play. It features five multilingual artists playing more than two dozen roles and is funded through New Alliance Foundation and the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
Workshops and Residencies
We will be in many places this year doing our signature theatre workshops including a new partnership with Planned Parenthood, an 8 week residency at Clinton Avenue School in New Haven, My Sister’s Place in Mt. Vernon, NY and continuing our work with long time partner, Easter Seals/Goodwill Industries through funding from the City of New Haven Department of Cultural Affairs.
